According to the report of the General Department of Fisheries, from the beginning of the year until now, the situation of aquaculture nationwide has been relatively stable. The area of brackish shrimp farming in the first 5 months of the year reached nearly 637,000 hectares, equaling 102% compared to the same period in 2017. In particular, the area of raising black tiger shrimp is over 582,000 hectares, whiteleg shrimp is 54,500 hectares. The harvested output was nearly 200,000 tons, equaling 111.1% over the same period in 2017. Export turnover in the first months of the year increased by 13.3% over the same period.
However, according to Nhu Van Can, Director of the Department of Aquaculture (General Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), the shrimp farming industry is facing many difficulties, especially the price of white leg shrimp. white has been falling sharply, especially from the beginning of May until now. In addition, the shrimp consumption market is facing many difficulties due to technical barriers from importing countries, the forecast of the market has not been timely, the phenomenon of injecting impurities into shrimp has not been completely handled.
Forecast of raw shrimp price in the coming time, especially for whiteleg shrimp, Mr. Truong Dinh Hoe, General Secretary of Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) said: Due to supply Countries are forecast to increase, as well as a large number of shrimp inventories, so it is likely that in 2018 the price of raw shrimp may not increase, especially vannamei shrimp. However, according to Mr. Le Van Quang, Chairman and General Director of Minh Phu Seafood Group - the largest shrimp exporter in Vietnam and the world, the price of raw shrimp will be improved due to countries with shrimp. After harvesting, many Vietnamese export processing enterprises have started to sign big contracts, which will push up the price of raw shrimp on the market. Sharing the same view, Mr. Le Van Su, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Mau Province shared: The province has a black tiger shrimp farming area of more than 270,000 ha, although recently the price of white shrimp has dropped sharply but the black tiger shrimp has remained stable. and always higher than white shrimp about 40%. Especially, continuously since 2011, the price of black tiger shrimp has always stood at a high level, sometimes the price of shrimp reached the peak of more than 350,000 VND / kg, 2-3 times higher than that of shrimp.
